VoxLox Media emerged in Fall 2003 with the publication of Rahim AlHaj’s CD, Iraqi Music in a Time of War. In the twenty years since, VoxLox has released 33 additional projects - CDs, films and multi-media books - representing international art collaborations across the US, Europe, Japan, Papua New Guinea, Ghana and Togo. VoxLox artist-authors include J.C. Abbey, Rahim AlHaj, Nii Otoo Annan, Dick Blau, Alex Coke, Steven Feld, Ghanaba (Guy Warren), Tom Guralnick, The La Drivers Union Por Por Group, Tina Marsh, Nii Noi Nortey, Nii Yemo Nunu, Jay Rozen, Virginia Ryan, Hannah Schreckenbach, The Texas Horns, and Nicholas Wayo. With video and audio clips and some performance surprises, VoxLox founder Steve Feld will celebrate 20 years of highlights and preview the newest VoxLox CD release, Horn to Horn: The La Drivers Union Por Por Group meet The Texas Horns, an audacious collaboration between a union of African horn honking truck drivers and a renown R&B horn section. Steve Feld has been active in New Mexico music scenes since the mid- 1970s, when he was a founder of the New Mexico Jazz Workshop. He has presented world music projects at Outpost many times over the years, as well as performed there with Tom Guralnick, Jefferson Voorhees, Zimbabwe Nkenya, Roswell Rudd, Nii Noi Nortey, Tina Marsh, Alex Coke, and others. In addition to producing films, recordings, and books from his research on global sound environments, he has taught anthropology, music, and film at many universities around the world, including UNM. Musical guests tonight will include long-time VoxLox collaborators, Alex Coke, woodwinds; Jefferson Voorhees, percussion; Rahim AlHaj, & Steve Feld.
