An undisputed virtuoso of the Classical Indian stringed instrument, the Sarod, Amjad Ali Khan is one of India's most celebrated classical musicians. Together with his sons, Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash, the family represents a brilliant musical lineage of seven generations of revered Sarod players responsible for establishing the Sarod as an instrument in Classical Indian music. Renowned for their exquisite performances, this iconic trio showcases the rich tradition of Indian classical ragas and Indian folk music featuring what has been called a legendary elegant lyricism and joy-filled dynamism. Times of India wrote, "Uniting people through music and melody … the power of their performance rocked the hall." Ustad Amjad Ali Khan gave his first recital on the 19-string teak and metal Sarod when he was only 6 years old and has performed internationally since the 1960s. A recipient of the UNESCO Award and Padma Vibhushan, the highest Indian civilian award, he holds Honorary Doctorates from the Universities of York, England and Delhi University and served as a visiting professor at the University of New Mexico. With his sons Ayaan Ali Khan and Amaan Ali Khan, he performed 'Raga For Peace' in the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize Concert. Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash have performed across the globe, including Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Smithsonian, and WOMAD festivals on many continents. They have performed and worked on numerous projects with their father (including numerous New Mexico performances) and have collaborated with guitarist Derek Trucks and others, establishing themselves as a duo carrying forward their musical legacy, which embraces both traditional and contemporary times.
