COBRA SKULLS, FUCKING BUCKAROOS, DEAD SET, HIDES
Cobra Skulls - The album is called Agitations, because most of the songs are lyrically concerned with, well, things that agitate and bother Devon (Singer). Things like prisons that are operated like businesses in an ever increasingly xenophobic and paranoid post 9/11 society, U.S. mercenaries taking the place of our military, the inevitable collapse (of which the beginnings we are already witnessing) of a neo-classical economic system and a consumerist obsessed car culture that cannot persist. Some songs deal with relationships with friends, family and loved ones. It’s not too different from their last two albums, but no song is quite like any song they've done before and every song has a distinct personality. Some are fast, some are mid-tempo and only one song is over three minutes long. Some songs sound influenced by blues, rockabilly, pop and some even have hints of jazz, funk and folk, but all songs are rooted in an old school punk spirit.
Fucking Buckaroos - Seminal powerviolence act from Hyde Park, Chicago. After the release of their incendiary debut lp, "Butthole Slap" on Olde Tyme Vinyl in 1993, the band recorded a now famous 12 disc concept album known as "The Line Is Being Drawn" on bootleg copies. The album was shelved, due to the label's inability to put up the funds for a 24 sided lp to be pressed in any quantity, but the tracks have since leaked onto the world wide web and become legendary. Sides 3-5 in particular(known to fans as "the white album") have gained a cult status among fans, as they are simply an single extended track that features the entire audio track from Orson Welles' "Citizen Kane." When asked why they released it as their own music, the band explained in a press release "We thought of it before Welles did, so fuck him. It was our idea to release it as an lp, which makes it our intellectual property. Also, we figure that Citizen Kane is just about the best movie ever made, which means that the audio from it is probably better than any songs could be."
Dead Set - California-style, punk/hardcore/rock-ish outfit from Santa Cruz.
