The Ridge-A-Thon is a pledge-based fundraiser held at Taos Ski Valley every year in March. Our event participants collect pledges before the event in support of the Emergency Medicines Fund at the Foundation. Over the two days of the event they will work to make as many hikes and take as many runs as they can along the TSV hike-to terrain. Over the years this event's donors and participants have helped raise more than half a million dollars for this fund, and we hope this year will be equally successful, and equally fun.
The Emergency Medicines Fund is designed to reimburse providers for the costs of emergency health expenses, including care, medicines and advocacy provided for community members in need. This supports both the patient and the provider relieving a stressful situation.
The the first Ridge-A-Thon was held in 1997 to help Ben Myers, a local extreme skier who was tragically lost to cancer at the age of 26. His close friends continued this tradition in his honor, and later, joined the Community Foundation to make this event the broad, community success it has become. At Taos Community Foundation, we don't think anyone should suffer due to the costs of medical assistance, and we're glad to know our community supports this cause, too. It's our health, and this is our effort to care for one another, it makes this fund we build each year, a life-changing force for good. We encourage everyone, on Ben's behalf: Play hard! Love more! Live it!
