James Horn has been playing five-string banjo since 1974, starting in Bellingham, Washington. He has had the privilege of tutoring closely with Peter Schwimmer and Herb Pedersen, and taken many valuable workshops with Tony Trischka, Alan Munde, Bill Keith, Eric Weissberg, and Butch Robins. His playing is solid and lively, while incorporating chromatic and syncopated methods. James has played in numerous bluegrass and new acoustic bands in Bellingham and Santa Fe, including Atomic Grass, Reno Sparks, Hot Club of Santa Fe, and the Huckleberry Band, and has won banjo contests in Washington and New Mexico. He has shared the stage with Herb Pedersen in Aspen, CO, Bill Keith in Woodstock, NY, and recorded a session for Roy Head in Nashville, TN.

Lance Gray / Marlene Gray come from varied musical backgrounds - from classic country and folk music to Handel and Beethoven. They came together in 1997, in Arizona, to form the Raw Deal Bluegrass Band. Their New Mexico music experience has seen Lance on bass, and Marlene playing rhythm guitar and autoharp with Coyote Crossing Bluegrass Band. They both sing lead and harmony vocals, drawing upon an expansive repertoire of country and western songs.

Dan Michael began picking guitar in the 60’s focusing on folk music. He learned a large repertoire of fiddle tunes while in grad school as a card carrying member of the Turkey’s in the Straw ( an old timey / Irish band in Columbus, Ohio). These fiddle tunes infiltrated and when Dan picked up the mandolin late in 2003 it was meant to be. Currently he draws inspiration from Joe Walsh, John Reischman, Steve Smith, and many other fine musicians including his short-time instructor Sharon Gilchrist. Currently Dan is focusing on bluegrass, can be found at weekly jam sessions and continues to indulge in old time / Irish music. Dan plays a Weber Fern.
Kitty Jo Creek Band is a melodious group of bluegrass musicians from the Santa Fe area who have played in different arrangements over the years. This bluegrass and cowboy jazz flavored group, includes the adventurous musicianship of James Horn, Lance Gray, Marlene Gray, and Dan Michael.
