Straight White Teeth is the dreamy alternative pop music project of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Patrick McGuire. After McGuire’s promising denver-based band Flashbulb Fires unexpectedly disbanded in 2014, he began composing gauzy pop interpretations written mainly with a small midi keyboard and an acoustic guitar. His first EP Medicine Sword was released a year later. Drawing inspiration from a diverse set of musical influences ranging from Elliott Smith to Debussy, Straight White Teeth is known for crafting thoughtful and sometimes brooding songs often themed around McGuire coming to terms with and breaking away from his tumultuous religious upbringing through an embrace of escapism.

“Lifetime,” a self-produced single featuring vocals from McGuire’s former piano student Paige Pfleger, was released in the fall of 2017. With no label or promotion, the ethereal song caught the attention of KCRW’s Jason Bentley, and it charted up at #6 on his show Morning Becomes Eclectic in January of 2018.

Starting in April of 2018, Straight White Teeth is slated to release a loose collection of singles one and two tracks at a time under the name Physical Truth. From danceable synth-driven efforts to quiet folk-inspired ballads, this disparate collection of songs are tied together only for the fact that they were written during a year-long period that McGuire spent traveling across North America with his partner, artist and collaborator Ella Trujillo. The songs featured on Physical Truth were written in bedrooms, hotels and from McGuire’s Scamp travel trailer in locations like New Orleans, Toronto, the upper peninsula of Michigan and the Oregon coast after McGuire recovered from a serious biking accident he sustained while living in Philadelphia.

A significant musical and thematic departure from McGuire’s previous work, the songs to be released through this collection showcase an emotional rawness the Colorado native has been hesitant to display until now. Paige Pfleger joins McGuire for vocals on some of these songs, and Straight White Teeth is set to tour the US during the second half of 2018."
