The Robb Janov Quartet takes an exciting improvisational team approach. The group utilizes familiar sounds, such as rock, classical and pop, and mixes them together with less familiar genres — gypsy jazz, funk, swing. The result is something altogether new!

The idea of taking a song from one style and playing it in a radically different style seemed like a great way to both intrigue the listener and challenge ourselves musically,” said Janov in an interview with Local iQ. “People discover a band, like the sound, but then tire of it after hearing numerous songs that all have ‘that sound.’” Like many music fans, we like to listen to a wide range of music. We wanted the band to embody that idea.”

Janov, a classically trained violinist (since the age of 5), has been surrounded by music all of his life. He also created an alternative music program (Rock and Rhythm) at Jefferson Middle School which has provided contemporary, nontraditional ensemble performance classes for a wide range of students over the past 23 years.

With Janov on violin and vocals, the group also includes Dimi Disanti on guitar, Wendy Beach on bass and John Bartlit on drums.
