What started out as an Ornette Coleman cover band, became so much more when it branched out with compositions by Thelonious Monk, Mihaly Dresch, Kenny Wheeler, Thomas Chapin, Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, and Bela Bartok. OrnEtc. is also focused on original tunes.
Lesser known standards and raucous originals are melody-driven, and played without traditional chordal instruments to emphasize the interplay between melody, improvisation, and the rhythm-section.
Atmospheric, searing and hypnotic, the Middle Eastern-tinged free-jazz/funk quartet Love Unfold The Sun brings sparkling interplay within hypnotic, muscular grooves. The band recently released the album "Live At Duel" on Norumba Records, a live set from Duel Brewing, Santa Fe, offering a more energetic, conversational take on the usual world/jazz mashup genre: "The open improvisations reveal an acute sensitivity ,..., ushering the quartet into one bracing and surprising exploration after another."
