Ghost Tapes

Inspired by the elements of 70's funk and soul, 90's hip-hop and late 90's neo soul, Ghost Tapes delivers enchanting, cerebral, and poetic original music. The five-piece showcases provocative, powerful vocals and progressive compositions in a style dubbed "alt-soul". Underneath the lyrical acumen of Ishka B. Phoenix are keyboardist Evan Ballinger, bassist Zeke Kyoku, guitarist Nick Moulds, and drummer Will Carman. Along with their captivating performances, Ghost Tapes released their debut album in 2017 and poised to release their second full-length offering in 2019.

Ghost Tapes has been in-studio guests on CPR's OpenAir, KGNU, KVCU, and CPT's Sounds on 29th, as well as playing prominent live performances at ARISE Music Festival, The Underground Music Showcase, and Westword Music Showcase.

"At [The Underground Music Showcase], Ghost Tapes was a major takeaway, popping triumphantly above the din with a care-free, funky set of throwback R&B. Led by the elastic vox of Ishka Phoenix, the group tangles with jazz chord progressions, occasionally political poetry and floor-slapping rhythms, a tricky high-wire act that they pull off with giddy poise." - Denver Post

"Ghost Tapes creates a blend of classic genres on its debut self-titled LP. Singer Ishka Phoenix leads the Denver quintet with remarkably soulful vocals while the band borrows elements from jazz, R&B and hip-hop. The band's energetic live show won them new fans at this year's Westword Music Showcase and Underground Music Showcase in Denver." - CPR's OpenAir

"Ghost Tapes were a funky, neo-soul standout ... frontwoman Ishka Phoenix had the crowd melting as she delivered tasty R&B sounds from her ice cream microphone." - boulderbeat
