At Taos Mesa Brewing, we are committed to preserving live entertainment anyway we can. That’s why we are proud to announce TMB-TV: a live streaming platform direct from the Mothership herself. On Friday’s and Sunday’s weekly, TMB will host local artists, professionals, and community leaders on the iconic Mothership stage. While this will never replace the live Mothership experience, our production team has developed a professional platform that will stream on several apps (youtube, Twitch, FB, VIMEO). Please help support live music, local artists, and TMB’s employees by tuning in and donating at our Online Tip Jar .  The Taos Mesa Brewing team thanks you for your continued support!

OrnEtc. - Your friendly local modern jazz band

OrnEtc. was formed roughly 5 years ago as an Ornette Coleman tribute band by bassist Noah Baumeister and drummer Dave Wayne. Baumeister, who studied jazz at NYU with Mingus Dynasty bassist Mike Richmond, is best known in New Mexico for his work with the Stephanie Hatfield Band.  Wayne, a self-taught drummer, has been playing jazz, funk and rock gigs all over New Mexico for the past 20-odd years. They reached out to cornetist Dan Pearlman and vibraphonist Lee Steck who, it turns out, were equally enamored with Ornette Coleman's challenging-yet-joyful compositions. Pearlman's strong affinity for this music goes all the way back to his days as an undergrad at Oberlin College. Steck, who is also an excellent drummer, took the OrnEtc gig on vibraphone—his first ever!

Still seeking another voice, the band asked the visionary saxophonist, composer, and community activist Chris Jonas to sit in. He had so much fun that he joined the band full-time! Locally, Chris is known as the chief facilitator of Littleglobe, a unique non-profit organization committed to fostering interdisciplinary, collaborative performing arts projects designed to empower disadvantaged individuals and communities and to nurture social imagination. Few people realize, however, that Chris is an internationally renowned tenor and soprano saxophonist and composer who has worked and recorded with jazz legends Anthony Braxton, William Parker, andCecil Taylor

The arrival of world-class jazz saxophonist Alex Murzyn in 2018 caused a huge buzz in Santa Fe's music community. Like Chris, Alex joined OrnEtc. after sitting in a few times. Alex's dizzying array of performance and recording credits include work with Dizzy Gillespie, Bobby Hutcherson, Jack Bruce, Arturo Sandoval, Sammy Davis, Jr., Pete Escovedo, Tito Puente, Sheila E, Freddie Hubbard, andStanley Clarke. In addition to his virtuoso skills on tenor, alto, and soprano saxophones, Alex is an excellent flutist and bass clarinetist. His broad instrumental palette and powerful improvisations have added multiple dimensions to the OrnEtc. sound.

Shortly after the OrnEtc.'s inception, the 'tribute band' idea was scrapped after the fellows agreed to focus on their own compositions, many of which are featured on their first recording “These Times.” The band's original pieces, while somewhat quirky and unpredictable, are nevertheless quite engaging – even catchy. More importantly, their music consistently swings hard. At Taos Mesa Brewing, OrnEtc. will be playing a set of new originals and cover tunes which were developed  after Alex Murzyn joined the band, plus one old favorite; Thomas Chapin's “Night Bird Song.”

OrnEtc is extremely pleased to return to the stage at Taos Mesa Brewing. We sincerely appreciate the support we've received from TMB and the Taos music community over the years. We eagerly anticipate performing our music on TMB-TV.com. This will be a totally new experience for us, and a totally enjoyable experience for your viewers.
