The 4th Annual Poet's vs. Emcee's
Bracket Style Elimination Competition.

Poet’s vs. Emcee’s has developed into the premier southwest writing competition, challenging writer’s of the performance/urban arts in ways they’ve never attempted before. Writer’s/Performers from all over the southwest will gather to put there skills to the test, enter themselves as Emcee or Poet, then go, head to head in a bracket elimination battle.

The Prize at Hand:
being named Champion of the event, prize money, and A headlining spot on a shindig thrown in there honor.


The entire event is designed to test each artist, poet or emcee;
there challenge is to rock their words at all times in rhyme or free verse.


Each round has been re-designed and re-vamped in ways to push the comfort zone.

The rounds are as follows:
ROUND 1: Lightning Acapella –
The Poet or Emcee has one minute and thirty seconds (1:30) to rock something straight up with no add-ons. A coin toss will open each bout determining who will go first, and then the bout will commence.

ROUND 2: Acoustic -
With music provided by Improvisational players the competitor has three minutes (3:00) to rock their poem or verse into the aggressive playing of our acoustic musicians. Like before A coin toss will open each bout determining who will go first, then the bout will commence.

ROUND 3: Improv –
Prior to entry everyone in the audience will be Encouraged to submit words/Ideas into a sheets of paper, all of which will be brought to stage for this round. The Competitor must use the word 3 times in a poem/verse that will be improved/freestyle. The time limit for this round will be Two minutes (2:00)

ROUND 4: “Deejay’s Foreplay” -
Our Deejay for the evening will be “DJ Flo Fader”
In this round the Deejay is the controlling factor. He will decide what music the poets and emcees will be rocking there writing over. The music can very from Elevator style music to Theatrical Soundtracks. Like the second round, the competitor has three minutes (3:00) to rock their poem or verse.

ROUND 5: “Beat Box” –
In this round, our guest Beat machine will provide tunes through the windpipe. The writer must fit into the groove, provided, the competitor has three minutes (3:00) to rock their poem or verse. And move the crowd.

ROUND 6: “ACAPELLA” –
For all the marbles, with no music, no “add-ons” the competitor has three minutes (3:00) to rock their poem or verse. The last Competitor standing will be named Champion of the event, taking home the prize money and a headlining spot on a show thrown in their honor.

Five judges will be judging the Event, Four of which are well versed in the art of performance writing and one audience member to break the ties.

In addition to the competition, there will be a Number of attractions to capture and inspire culture in the community. These attractions include live visual art by various local artists using all sorts of mediums, and Performances by Southwest music groups.

The General audience cover charge for this event is $5 per person / $8 for two people.

So come join the southwest’s verbal warfare, the ultimate test, the best of the best as they take each other on to see which is really better, the Poet or the Emcee.


"The Underground Renaissance" is a series of collective artists connecting with each other for the purpose of furthering "Modern Art" and all art forms. From the Dub of the Hip, to the Step of the Hop the Goal remains the same, to preserve the CULTURE using our ART.

All Proceeds from this event will be going back to the artist's for their own projects, as well as, the continuation of events to display them.
