Flamenco Con-paz

Flamenco can be described as a cultural fusion of passion, spirit and emotion.  Originating from a variety of eastern gypsy roots, flamenco has become most popular in the Southern region of Spain.  This tri-art includes a guitar (guitarista), singer (cantaor) and dancer (bilaor).  The rhythmic patterns, or compas, keep the group cohesive with clapping (palmas) through out each piece (palo). The dancer mixes percussive footwork with intricate hand, arm and body movements. The guitar holds the harmonic structure while the singer cries out mood defining poetry.
