To close out the Spring Season, we present the Rodriguez Bros Band. Co-led by pianist/composer Robert and trumpeter/composer Michael Rodriguez, the sons of Cuban drummer Roberto Rodríguez, the Grammy nominated Rodriguez Brothers have individually worked as sidemen for Roy Haynes, Charlie Haden, Eddy Palmieri, David Sanchez, Wynton Marsalis, Joe Locke, Carla Bley, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Harry Connick Jr., Christian McBride, Quincy Jones and many others, and since 2002, have led The Rodriguez Bros. band. Having performed at many prestigious venues and festivals around the world and releasing several recordings, they create “seductively melodic, colorfully harmonic, and vibrantly rhythmic music” (LatinJazzNet). Their 2016 record, Impromptu, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz and in 2023, they celebrated the 20th Anniversary of their 2002 debut recording, with their release, The Rodriguez Brothers: Reunited – Live at Dizzy’s Club, of which LatinJazzNet wrote, “Their work – while propelled by Afro-Cuban tumbao and deeply rooted in the island’s irresistible descargas, often punctuated by stunning rhythmic montuno breaks – swings with abandon, which also belies their dedication to the wider world of Black American Music.” The band is Robert Rodriguez piano; Mike Rodriguez Trumpet/flugelhorn; Carlos del Puerto, bass; and Ludwig Afonso, drums.
