Join us on Thursday, March 8th, 2018 for the 10th Annual Women In Technology Celebration to recognize the achievements of women working in New Mexico’s technology arena, promoting the role of women in tech and science, and encouraging women to pursue careers in these fields.

We will also recognize the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Aspirations in Computing winners. The NCWIT Aspirations in Computing awards honors young women at the high school level for their computing-related achievements and interests. Recipients are selected for their computing and IT aptitude, leadership ability, academic history, and plans for post-secondary. Awardees from NM will be honored at our event!

Introducing Karen McKinnon – Our Keynote Speaker

Karen McKinnonKaren McKinnon, Ph.D

Descartes Labs,

Applied Scientist

Karen McKinnon relocated to New Mexico in 2017 from her native Colorado to join Descartes Labs as an Applied Scientist. She received her PhD in Earth and Planetary Sciences from Harvard University in 2015; her doctorate research focused on developing novel statistical and physical models for climate variability with applications ranging from extreme events to long-term climate change. After finishing up her degree, she moved back to Colorado by way of New York City to spend two years as an Advanced Study Program post-doctoral fellow at the National Center for Atmospheric Research. When not wrangling data and writing code, Karen can be found going on outdoor adventures throughout the West.

In recognition of the vital need for ongoing technology education and certification, NMTC and our sponsors will award a single scholarship to one of our members at its 10th Annual Women in Technology Celebration on March 8, 2018. The scholarship may fund additional education, job re-training, or certification so that one of our own can switch to a career in technology or gain the skills needed to advance in her technology career. Applications are now open!

Are you and/or your organization willing to help support the Tech Council’s efforts to promote the role of Women in Technology? Please consider sponsoring our celebration and our scholarship program. Contact: nyika@nmtechcouncil.org or nadine@nmtechcouncil.org for more information.
