Riding in on the high desert of Santa Fe, Half Broke Horses plays a danceable blend of Americana and Country. Wrangling songs from Americana, ‘real’ country and alt-country, they craft a fresh take on the classics and newer tunes, drawing inspiration from 3 chords and the truth. Each member brings a wealth of influences and talent to the stage.
Tasha Curtis, on vocals and guitar, brings deep and earthy tones to songs, making them come to life in a deeply personal way. Her influences include Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams and Patsy Cline. Ditta Khalsa, on lead guitar, grew up between mean streets of Berkeley, California and the foothills of the Himalayas. A guitar enthusiast since his teens, Ditta discovered Americana music through guitar greats such as Tony Rice, Albert Lee and Roy Buchanan. Larry Diaz, on bass guitar and vocals, is from Los Angeles, and started playing in bands in 1981. He enjoys playing country, blues, rock and folk and is glad to have made his home in Santa Fe. Bjorn Hamre is a professional drummer/percussionist of 18 years, with extensive experience in the genres of Latin percussion, rock, funk, blues, country, and soul. Formerly of the William Morris agency, Bjorn has toured extensively both nationally and internationally, and has shared the stage with such acts as Blues Traveler, Leftover Salmon, G. Love and Special Sauce, The Tedeschi/Trucks Band, and Henrik Freischlader.
