Jefferson Voorhees Solo + The Glass Key Trio

Jefferson Voorhees has resided in Albuquerque for more than half of his 50-year drumming career. His local resume includes such projects as the Tom Guralnick Trio, Bayou Seco, Wagogo, Rahim al Haj and Out of Context, presently featuring regular performances with Saudade, Jasper, The DogBoneTrio, and The Red Roosters—who play Americana at senior centers and nursing homes around town. He is also the long-time accompanist for Romy Keegan’s popular Ballet Afrique classes at Maple Street Dance. About once a decade, Voorhees “feels compelled” (as he puts it) to perform a solo concert.  In the 1980s, this was in San Francisco; in the 1990s, at the old Outpost on Morningside. This, his fifth, will reflect the various musical avenues he’s been travelling since his last highly acclaimed Outpost solo in 2011. Voorhees queries, “Why would a drummer who most revels in melody and ensemble playing and enthusiastic dancers attempt such a thing, again?” and answers “I am mainly hoping to expose the expressive possibilities of my beloved, quirky drum set.”  The Glass Key Trio was formed by guitarist and composer Jeremy Bleich in early 2018. The group explores stylized compositions inspired by folk, jazz, country, world music, early Americana and film noir.  The Glass Key Trio’s music is a subtle and intimate listening experience. Led by Bleich on acoustic guitar plus acoustic bass and drums, each composition, as Bleich describes it, " acts as a vehicle for free and spontaneous improvisations of genre bending, spirited dialogue ushering the listener on a narrative journey of musical frontiers crossing freely between borders." “The Glass Key Trio has conceived a strange combination of folk, gospel, spirituals, jazz and experimental curiosities, all without adhering too intensely to any one, and without an easy means to genre-fy.
