History combines with magic to offer a unique look at a colorful part of Albuquerque's forgotten past. Built in 1881 as a brothel and saloon with "wine room in connection," the property has quite the spirited past. Tales of buried money, hidden rooms, and Billy the Kid are all waiting inside. Many a knife fight and shootout are just some of the echoes of its sordid past. The evening will expose the disreputable history of the property, including true ghost stories told by the owner combined with ghostly magic performed by the ghost of Milton J. Yarberry. Yarberry takes the stage with a hilarious personality that captures the imagination of each audience member, taking them back to a time when characters of the Wild West ruled the land. Based on the life of an actual historical figure, the performance is a "living history" lesson sure to delight any audience.

The Painted Lady Bed & Brew is featured in Haunted Hotels & Ghostly Getaways of New Mexico. A General Admission ticket that includes a signed copy of the book is available for purchase.

Limited seating available. This is an outdoor event; please dress accordingly.

There is no alcohol available for sale at this event. Please plan to visit one of the many breweries and taprooms within walking distance of the property before or after the show.

About Milton J. Yarberry:

Born in 1849 in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, Yarberry lived a colorful life and ended up being Albuquerque's first elected Sheriff. Convicted of murder, he was sentenced to death. Milton J. Yarberry served as Albuquerque’s first elected constable with the coming of the railroad in 1880. A former declared outlaw and then Texas Ranger, Yarberry headed into New Mexico as a train robbing gang member only to befriend Bernalillo County Sheriff Perfecto Armijo and eventually was appointed the Precinct 12 constable, then later elected. Robert K. DeArment in his book; Deadly Dozen, gives details about Yarberry, classifying him "as one of the twelve least known but more dangerous gunmen of the Old West." Yarberry went on to be convicted of murder and as sheriff met his fate at the end of a rope on February 9, 1883.

The ghost of Milton J. Yarberry wrote, produced, directs and performs the show. Extensive research went into writing the script and the magic was chosen to fit the story. In addition, the set and props were designed and built by him, making the show experience a unique combination of story-telling and magic.
