Veterans making pens

Military members and veterans are invited to join us for a Veterans Day project -- making hardwood Slimline style pens for active duty service members! No woodturning experience is necessary.

Don Roden, a Dovetail resident and owner of Veterans Woodworking Workshop, and additional volunteers will lead you through the basics of blank preparation, spindle turning, turning to specific lengths and thickness, sanding, finishing and polishing, and pen assembly. All materials (pen kits and blanks of a variety of exotic woods) and tools are provided.

The pens will be distributed to military personnel overseas and/or wounded troops currently hospitalized or convalescing, via a national project hosted by Woodcraft, Inc. Locally, the project is also sponsored by the New Mexico Woodturners club.

All shop users must complete a Release of Liability form.
