Two generations, Two jazz masters ... come together in the "Master Legacy Series", a series that Emmet Cohen recorded, paying homage to jazz master Tootie Heath. Emmet is a young jazz piano player who has made an enormous impact on the current jazz scene over the last few years and Tootie’s career spans more than six decades playing and recording with everyone from Lester Young to Dexter Gordon and many more giants of jazz in between. In April of 2021, Tootie was awarded the highest honor given to any jazz musician, 'The National Endowment For The Arts Jazz Masters Award', in recognition of lifetime achievement. The honor is bestowed upon individuals who have made significant contributions to the art form. On Friday, September 9th, they will come together to show us why they are both such prominent figures in the jazz world and how timeless this music is when more than fifty years of separation in age makes for a seamless musical performance. So come on out and help us all celebrate Santa Fe’s own Albert Tootie Heath ... still tearing it up in his octogenarian years.
