Winners of the Jackie McGehee Young Artists' Competition, two of our most talented young musicians bring their best to two stellar compositions from the intersection of the 19th and 20th centuries. The first movement of American composer Edward MacDowell's Piano Concerto No. 2 is filled with episodes of passion and serenity, while Elgar's Cello Concerto expresses pain and meditation, having been written in the aftermath of the First World War. The NMPhil ends with Beethoven's happy and exuberant Symphony No. 1.
