In a supportive and stimulating setting, students enjoy working with many of the region’s most respected jazz musicians. With an emphasis on soloing techniques, students explore the art of jazz improvisation by studying a variety of jazz styles. Students are encouraged to go at their own pace and are provided with music theory lessons that help build confidence in the art of soloing.
The Summer Jazz Camp welcomes students of all abilities. Students are placed according to age and experience in one of three levels. Adjustments in placement, designed to pair students with complementary talents, will be made throughout the session at the direction of the instructors.
Previous experience playing jazz is not a requirement. Eligibility is based on one year experience on an instrument and a desire to focus intently on the jazz idiom.
