Inspired by the legendary two-tenor pairings in jazz-think Lest Young and Herschel Evans or Al Cohn and Zoot Sims - the Boss Baritones bring this dynamic energy to life with a twist, showcasing the powerful voices of the baritone saxophone. Leading the charge are two of today's finest baritone saxophonists, Gary Smulyan and Frank Basile, both renowned for their artistry and impact on the jazz scene.

Gary Smulyan, widely considered the leading baritone saxophonist of our time, has been honing his craft for over 40 years. A six-time Grammy winner, he has played alongside giants like B.B. King, Joe Henderson, and Freddie Hubbard, earning acclaim from critics and audiences alike. Frank Basile joined the New York jazz scene in 2001, quickly becoming a sought-after sideman for groups like the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and Christian McBride Big Band. Basile’s artistry shines as he follows in the footsteps of his mentors, including Smulyan himself.

After a stellar debut at Smalls Jazz Club just before the pandemic hit, the Boss Baritones are back, reigniting their momentum and bringing their rich, bold sound to stages across New York and beyond. Don’t miss this powerhouse duo as they pay homage to jazz history with a fresh baritone twist.
