"It all started in 2013
PSPFB was founded in response to an increasing number of people being forced to give up their pets because they could no longer afford to feed them; at a time when they probably needed them the most.
In January 2013, the CSL Pet Food Bank opened in the basement of the Center for Spiritual Living (CSL) church for two Saturdays every month. On day one, we served 12 families with 27 pets. We considered ourselves a success! By the end of the year, we had served 598 families; many were returning clients. This confirmed a need in the community; that need would continue to grow non-stop. In 2014, we doubled our client base and knew we needed to expand.
In 2015, we expanded to service a second location, Spanaway, and grew into a new 501(c)(3) corporation, officially changing our name to Puget Sound Pet Food Bank, with Marge Meyer as President. Today, we provide food and supplies monthly to over 625 pets and support several rescue groups, Senior Centers, homeless organizations, tiny home villages, and other outreach organizations.
Our work supports pets throughout Puget Sound by fighting food insecurity, ensuring people don't have to choose between feeding their pets and feeding themselves. Puget Sound Pet Food Bank operates entirely on donations and is staffed by a small group of dedicated volunteers with no salaried staff. We believe in our motto: No Pet Should Go Hungry. We strive to be a warm and welcoming place where everyone feels free to come for help and be greeted with love, respect, and genuine interest in their pets. Puget Sound Pet Food Bank is here to help
pets and the people who love them. If you are an animal lover, you know that you are part of a very special breed of human beings.
We are very fortunate to have strong support from our community – local pet stores and veterinary clinics, school pet food drives, and many concerned and caring community members."
