Santa Fe Great Big Jazz Band

Founded over 25 years ago, the Santa Fe Great Big Jazz Band is an 18-member jazz
ensemble under the direction of Kurt Carr, that performs from a library of more than 200
tunes. Included are elevated arrangements of many jazz standards from bands of the
past – Count Basie, Woody Herman, Glenn Miller, Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, and others –
as well as newer charts by fine contemporary composers and arrangers, such as Quincy
Jones, Tom Kubis, Herbie Hancock and Gordon Goodwin.

Our vast library is comprised of an array of styles, from bebop and blues to Latin and hard-
hitting swing, with a large number of dance and vocal tunes. Many of the charts were

created or arranged specifically for the Santa Fe Great Big Jazz Band by local
composers.
The band appears monthly at Tiny’s Restaurant and has performed at Tumbleroot and
on the Santa Fe Plaza as one of the headline bands for the Santa Fe Bandstand summer
