LOBO CYCLING TEAM AIMS FOR
SPEED RECORD ON THE DCP:
Attempt set for Thursday, April 30th

Albuquerque, NM -- April 29th, 2015 --
The UNM Lobo Cycling Team will attempt to set the Duke City Pedaler Beer Bike 5K speed record on Thursday, April 30, at 5:30 p.m. in Civic Plaza. Ten of the fastest athletes in New Mexico will pedal the multi-passenger bike through downtown Albuquerque making pit stops at Marble Brewery, Tractor Brewing Company Wells Park and Back Alley Draft House. This will be done in an effort to raise awareness about the funds needed to get the team to the national championships.
Six riders on the UNM Lobo Cycling team have qualified for the Collegiate Road National Championships in Asheville, NC, May 8-10. The Lobo Cycling Team is currently ranked #11 out of 136 Division 1 schools. Receiving no funding from the University, the team has turned to crowdsourcing to raise the awareness and the funds for this undertaking. This could be the first time in over a decade that UNM fields a full men's and women's team at the national championship.
The Lobo Cycling Team members, four of whom qualify as Academic All-Americans, spend their own money as well as blood, sweat and tears to compete throughout the year. Travel costs for the national championships are estimated at $7,500. Fans have paid the team's entry fees. |

ABQ Trolley Co. cordially invites the media to join them at Civic Plaza on Thursday, April 30th, at 5:30 p.m. as the Lobo Cycling Team prepares for their challenge. The team will depart Civic Plaza on the Duke City Pedaler at 6:00 p.m.

The Duke City Pedaler is a multi-passenger, eco-friendly, human powered vehicle. The Pedaler is driven by an ABQ Trolley Co. employee and powered by ten pedaling customers. Four non-pedaling "back seat riders" can enjoy the experience from a bench seat. When record attempts are not underway, the Duke City Pedaler brings riders through Downtown and Old Town, stopping to sample pubs, bars and restaurants along the route. |

ABOUT UNM LOBO CYCLING TEAM
The seven-time national champions are now in their 24th season. The women's team - Sue Tallent Alschuler, Lauren Tininenko and Elisa Woody - won the conference championship team time trial. The men's team includes Niklas Podhraski, Doug "The Destroyer" Torres and Nate Bia.
