Paul Lovato - Kanoa Kaluhiwa Quintet

Originally planned to feature trumpeter Paul Gonzales, this concert, due to unforseen circumstances, has been changed to a quintet featuring saxophonist Kanoa Kaluhiwa (Outpost’s long-time adult & youth jazz class instructor) and saxophonist and longtime Outpost student, Paul “Pablo” Lovato. One of the finest tenor saxophonists working in New Mexico, Kanoa Kaluhiwa, served as the saxophonist for Grammy award winning guitarist Ottmar Liebert for many years, touring and recording worldwide. He is currently a member of New Mexico’s own renowned salsa group, Son Como Son.  Paul Lovato has been a student in the Outpost program since he was 10 years old. In the youth ensembles he excelled at every instrument from vocals, to drums, to bass, to bagpipes until he settled on the tenor saxophone, which is now his home base. He continues to play in the adult ensembles where he has become a leader and, in 201, he was selected by the New Mexico Jazz Workshop to perform with a few of his fellow students to perform on an Eastern European Jazz Festival tour. Joining Kanoa and Paul will be pianist Steve Figueroa, bassist Terry Burns, and drummer John Barttlit.
