Originally from Stamford, Connecticut, Howard “Tubby” Cloud has, for many years, been the bass player with New Mexico based vocalist Busy McCarroll’s band, Y Los Big Deals, and, more recently, has accompanied internationally known musician, writer, and former United States poet laureate Joy Harjo as part of her Arrow Dynamics Band. He has also shared the stage with Grammy winning guitarist Larry Mitchell and is active locally with music educator and steelpan player Frank Leto (Pandemonium). Howard’s musical journey has taken him across the United States and the U. S. Virgin Islands and he holds degrees in music and education from CNM, Berklee College of Music, and Grand Canyon University, where he recently earned a Master's in Special Education. As a performing artist in his teens, one of Howard’s first gigs was a tour with his mentor, guitarist Chuck Dudley of the Peg Leg Bates Variety Show. His band, "Tubby Cloud and Zenith," which “expresses Cloud's Funk/Jazz aesthetic to its fullest,” is a project that has developed through his musical association with numerous talented musicians and for this concert he is joined by John Rangel on keyboards, Arnaldo Acosta on drums, and John Elias on saxophone, with a special appearance by Frank Leto on steel pans and vocalist Andrew Cooper.
