Bios of the Band
Melissa Montoya received her Masters degree in vocal performance from the University of New Mexico in 2008. She has appeared on stage as Larina in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, the Mistress of the Novices in Puccini’s Suor Angelica Praskovia in Lehar’s the Merry Widow and as the 3rd lady in Mozart's The Magic Flute. In concert, Ms. Montoya has sung solos in Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and the Saint-Saens Christmas Oratorio. As a recitalist, Ms. Montoya specializes in Spanish and French art song and the music of Mahler. Ms. Montoya often performs as a jazz singer for her French Gypsy Jazz band, Swing Magique and as singer for the flamenco troup Flamenco D'Aki.
When she's not working as a musician, Melissa is painting or playing with clay and can be found hiking in the vast New Mexico wilderness with her miniature Pinscher, Lily.
Ronaldo Baca has been playing for New Mexico audiences for over 40 years as an accomplished player of Flamenco, Jazz, Classical Guitar, Guitar, and the Arabic lute (a.k.a. the Oud). Outside of New Mexico he has performed in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain; Hollywood, CA; Las Vegas, NV; Denver, CO; Lawrence,KA; Amarillo,TX, and . Most recently, he has performed as a soloist with the Santa Fe Symphony and Chorus at St. Francis Cathedral.
For over a year, he studied and lived in Jerez de la Frontera, Andalucia, Spain.
He has studied Flamenco under the guidance of Juan Junquera Cortez, Santiago Moreno,
Pedro Cuadra, Chuscales, Pedro Cortez, Roberto Castellon, and Eric
Patterson. He has also studied the Manouche style of jazz under renowned player Samson Schmitt.
Michaël Faucheur is a pianist and guitarist. His influences are Gypsy Jazz, musette, classical, and Balkan music. He graduated from l' école Atla, a jazz school created by the Gypsy Jazz guitarist, Patrick "Romane" Leguidecoq. After performing for 15 years in France and Europe, Michaël moved to Oakland, California and played with The Oakland Manouche Project for 6 years. In 2018, Michaël moved to Albuquerque, NM where he joined the band, Swing Magique.
Micky Patten moved to New Mexico in 1982. He is originally from Michigan where he studied at Oakland University and then the University of Minnesota. He hosts the Kaktus Brewery Jazz Jam every Wednesday along with other gigs in area. He also teaches Jazz Improvisation at the New Mexico Jazz Workshop.
Jonah Minkus, a dynamic 21-year-old drummer from Albuquerque, New Mexico, has showcased his skills at the Telluride Jazz Festival in Colorado under the direction of Rufus Reid and on the international stage at the Saulkrasti Jazz Festival in Latvia. In New Mexico, Jonah is a sought-after performer, collaborating with many respected musicians and versatile bands. He is also a member of the young jazz group "Songs Without Purpose," known for their innovative sound and engaging performances.
