An American multi-instrumentalist, composer, and performer and a central figure in the avant-garde and experimental music scene in New York City for over 30 years, Elliott Sharp has released over eighty-five recordings ranging from orchestral music to blues, jazz, noise, no wave rock, and techno music. Playing mainly guitar, saxophone and bass clarinet, Sharp has led many projects over the years, including Carbon, Orchestra Carbon, Tectonics, Terraplane, and SysOrk, a group dedicated to the realization of algorithmic and graphic scores. A pioneer in applying fractal geometry, chaos theory, and genetic metaphors to musical composition and interaction, he has collaborated with everyone from Radio-Sinfonie Frankfurt to Debbie Harry, the Kronos String Quartet, Pops Staples, Jack DeJohnette, Oliver Lake, and many others. A 2014 Guggenheim Fellow and 2014 Fellow at Parson's Center for Transformative Media, Sharpe received the 2015 Berlin Prize in Musical Composition from the American Academy in Berlin.
