Virtual at the J and at-home
WEDNESDAY, 9/14 7 pm Shaunna Edwards & Alyson Richman, The Thread Collectors Virtual-at home or in person at the J. 1863: In a small Creole cottage in New Orleans, an ingenious young Black woman embroiders intricate maps on repurposed cloth to help enslaved men flee and join the Union Army. Meanwhile, in New York City, a Jewish woman stitches a quilt for her husband, who is stationed in Louisiana with the Union Army but hasn’t been heard from in months. The paths of these two women converge in New Orleans, where an unexpected encounter leads them to discover that even the most delicate threads have the capacity to save us.
This event is presented in collaboration with the the Jewish Book Council. Shauna and Alyson will present their book and answer questions. To purchase books in advance, our bookstore partners online: Bookworks (4022 Rio Grande Blvd NW) and Page 1 Books (5850 Eubank Blvd NE).
